Behind the Curtain
Less is More is definitely true for these powerful little applications. They have the ability to perform very useful tasks, and their authors have also made them Freeware.
Have you hugged your programmer today? Or you could buy them a beer in lieu of the hug you know. [**]?

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

ATOMTIME.EXE (150 k) is a 32-bit Win95 Internet (Winsock) application which will connect to the Atomic Clock time server in Boulder, CO and fetch the current atomic clock time value.
atmtm14b.zip
(with readme 105k)
Hey ! Does anyone know what time it really is?
It compares this value to your PC or Server time and displays the difference. You then have the option of updating your PC or Server clock to match the atomic clock value. There is also a command line option to have AtomTime automatically set the clock and exit.

I never "meta"pad I didn't like.

If you write code or edit text, one of the most useful programs for everyday use is Microsoft Notepad. Notepad is quite powerful and has almost everything one needs in a simple text editor.
But then I found metapad.exe 33k.
Metapad is a small, fast (and completely free) text editor for Windows 9x and Windows NT with all the features of Microsoft Notepad but with many extra (and rather useful) features. I never "meta"pad I didn't like.

How many pixels can dance on the head of a pin?
Screen Ruler
(zip 26k)is a virtual ruler ready to be dragged
around on your computer screen. This Windows 95/NT 32bit
application is useful to measure objects in Pixels.
It features a horizontal or vertical orientation, a dynamic
mouse tracking measurement, custom length, plus it can also
float above all other windows. Handy when designing Web Pages
and other screen layouts. A full feature version is available
at: http://www.microfox.com/--> Jesse Carneiro, author.
